India took down England for the first time ever in a Twenty20 International match at Durban in 2007 after Yuvraj Singh dispatched Stuart Broad for six sixes an over. Now these teams face each other again when they meet Thursday in Guyana for their semi-final of the T20 World Cup.
India put up an outstanding performance with bat and ball against England on Friday. Jasprit Bumrah proved especially devastating as he claimed three wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel caused chaos with spin bowling.
India vs England Test Matches
India and England 2022 Test series will take place across five stadiums in both countries, beginning with an inaugural match at Hyderabad Cricket Association Ground on January 25, followed by matches in Bangalore on January 27 and Mumbai on February 15 – with enough time between matches so both teams can rest up before their meeting in Rajkot on February 17.
India will host three Tests while England hosts four. Sports18 network acquired rights for Indian home games back in 2023; fans can also stream them live online via JioCinema and Kayo; while Kayo One costs $25 while Plus requires $30 per month subscription, while JioCinema remains free.
Both teams are hoping to take control of this five-match Test series. India won their previous meeting 4-1; but this match will surely be close; both squads boast quality players; the battle between India’s spinners and England’s fast bowlers could prove crucial in deciding the outcome of this encounter.
England are without Ben Stokes for this match, yet still hope for big things from left-arm spinner Jack Leach and leg spinner Tom Hartley as substitutes for pace bowler Ben Stokes. England are also hoping for big performances from Zak Crawley, batsman Ollie Pope and wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow to contribute some crucial innings.
After an initially disappointing start, India finally found their groove and put up an impressive total of 377 runs in just over 13 overs. Much credit must go to captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill for their heroic efforts – both scoring centuries – while Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow made strong contributions too, reaching half-centuries themselves.
However, India was still able to restrict England batting on Day 2. Even with frequent wicket losses throughout the day, Indian batsmen managed to push ahead to an impressive lead of 255 by tea time despite losing wickets during their innings. Sarfaraz Khan is in line to score another century while Devdutt Padikkal will hope for a successful first-class debut.
India vs England ODIs
England are in for an exciting week ahead, as they prepare to face India for a five-match ODI series beginning July 12. In addition, England have been selected as hosts of India’s 2021 Test series which has been postponed until February 27 and their fifth Test from that series rescheduled for July 18 in London will also take place this July 12 in Pune.
Jos Buttler will lead England in white-ball cricket once more after his impressive performances at Birmingham and will likely include Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes; although latter may be rested before playing at the Champions Trophy.
Indian and English teams share an intense rivalry that extends across all formats of cricket, most recently meeting at the final of the 2019 World Cup final in England. Both have talented players on their squads which makes for some exciting encounters when competing in ODIs and T20Is against one another.
Since the advent of One Day International cricket, India and England have played 107 ODI matches against each other; of those matches, India have won 58 while England have secured 44 wins; there have also been three draws between these sides.
India and England boast an excellent head-to-head record when it comes to One Day Internationals, winning four of nine matches played between them. Both sides will look to improve on this performance when meeting at the 2023 ODI World Cup being hosted in India.
India will play its five-Test Test series against England at Lord’s, Oval and Headingley during June 2025 – marking India’s return after seven years and part of a seven-year tour cycle where both sides play 10 Tests each other’s venues; the winner of which will win the Pataudi Trophy.
England are coming off a disappointing Test run, so their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup depend on an outstanding ODI series against India. England are looking forward to continuing their aggressive style that helped them dominate T20Is.
India vs England T20s
India-England T20s has long been one of the fiercest rivalries in world cricket, as each side remains evenly matched and their head-to-head record stands at 12-12 after 24 matches played between them. They have met four times at T20 World Cups; India winning twice while England taking home both titles; their first encounter came during 2007 edition, when Yuvraj Singh hit Stuart Broad for six sixes to give India a 10-wicket victory at Kingsmead.
Jos Buttler and Alex Hales’ unbeaten 170-run partnership in the 2022 semifinal stood out. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to stop India who defeated England by 10 wickets to reach the final. England will look to avenge that defeat in Thursday’s match at Providence Stadium.
India was led by Axar Patel who delivered another impressive spell, taking two key wickets early in his first over: Castled Jonny Bairstow before trapping Moeen Ali out attempting a reverse sweep attempt. Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav both contributed well by also taking wickets as England struggled to find their feet, eventually finishing on 62-5 after 10 overs.
Harry Brook made Kuldeep bowler-aim Kuldeep work hard before eventually succumbing to him in the 15th over. A loud LBW appeal was denied after close scrutiny, prompting Harry Brook to review until an umpire eventually ruled that the ball had clearly struck back of his neck and bowled him.
England’s chase faltered quickly, as they were all out for just 103 in 17.4 overs. Axar Patel (3/23) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/19) struck repeatedly at Jos Buttler and Harry Brook, leaving only Jos Buttler as resistance against Axar Patel (3/23) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/19). India came away victorious by an overwhelming 68-run margin to face South Africa in the T20 World Cup final – it served as the perfect revenge after beating England earlier at India hands in previous semi-final semis; these teams will square off again come Saturday at once more for another showpiece contest of this tournament!
India vs England T20Is
India will take on England, the defending World T20 Champions, in Providence, Guyana for their second semifinal of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Wednesday evening in Providence. Whoever emerges victorious will face South Africa for a spot in Saturday’s final. Both sides will hope for an uninterrupted match and look forward to competing on Guyana’s soil for an inaugural Twenty20 International between them both.
England have reached this far in despite an underwhelming start, by playing with intensity in each match and not making mental errors. They will aim to build upon their performance against Australia in their initial semi-final and must overcome their batting struggles by producing an outstanding display against India in their second semifinal matchup.
Rohit Sharma will rely heavily on star batsmen like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya to reach the final. Meanwhile, England boasts an experienced squad filled with young talent; they hope that making their last World Cup appearance memorable.
After struggling in the group stage, England have made a strong comeback by defeating both West Indies and South Africa. Now they will look to improve on their semi-final performance against India but must also put on an outstanding show if they want to claim victory!
England will be without Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali for the remaining games of this tournament, leaving them exposed against India’s well-organized squad. India’s devastating performance may prompt Rob Key to reconsider his plans regarding Buttler and Moeen; it remains to be seen what options exist for both in future, but clearly England Director of Cricket Kevin Pietersen needs new T20 experience players coming through his system.
